The WTUN is pleased to announce that Professor Michael Shamiyeh will deliver the WTUN Annual Lecture 2026
The Narrow Lens: Why Smart Companies Misread the Future — and How Future-Makers Can Push Back
From Daimler-Chrysler’s collapsed merger to Peloton’s pandemic-era overreach, some of the smartest executives in business history have gotten the future badly wrong — not from a lack of data or a failure to act, but from making that future through a single, deeply trained lens. In fact, every case in this talk is a bet on the future built entirely from within one executive mental model, with no mechanism for outside perspectives to get in. This talk unpacks the hidden pattern behind these multi-billion-dollar failures, and turns to the strategies future-makers inside these same organizations can use to widen that lens and push back against it.
