Dr. Baby Joseph is presently working as Dean Research at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai, India. Dr. Baby Joseph received his Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees with outstanding merit cum Gold Medal from University of Madras. He has secured Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala; Bachelor of Philosophy from DPI and Bachelor of Theology degrees from DVK, Dharmaram College, Bangalore with proficiency. His area of interest and focus of research spread across Heat Shock Protein 70KDa Gene expression, Environmental and Molecular Toxicology, Stress Biology, Biomaterial Science and Tissue Engineering, Cancer biology – Gene silencing, Natural Products and Drug Designing using Bioinformatics tools. He has worked in different renowned labs and with prestigious institutes in India (IISc. Bangalore; JNU Delhi; Biology and Biotechnology Division, Discovery Lab – IICT, Amino Acid lab in NIN cum CCMB, Hyderabad) and abroad (Tsukuba Japan, NUS and A*STAR Singapore and Biozentrum, Switzerland). He bagged many awards from international scientific bodies cum Universities. He has secured “CSIR Young Scientist Award” for the Research Scholars for the year 1999-2000, Best “Ph.D. thesis award for the year 2004 from AIACHE-New Delhi and Madras University, “Swiss Scientist Forum Award” for the highly commended researcher and best research findings towards global contribution in the year 2004 (Geneva Conference), “Indian President’s Award” for the best research and Scientist in India for the year 2005, “Immuno gene-tech award for excellence” in the research presented by Biozentrum, Basal, Switzerland – 2006. He was also designated as President of European Scientist consortium 2008-2011. (Best Policy maker award), WHO Advisory Committee/ Board Member from 2009 to 2011 (Best innovator award). He was an invited speaker for international conferences, chaired many sessions and presented research findings with novel excellence in foreign Universities in Japan (Tsukuba Science City, Sophia University -Tokyo), Singapore (NUS, NTU,TLL, A*STAR Bio polis), Taiwan (Academia Sinica), Malaysia (USM), Germany (Heinrich Heine Universität-Düsseldorf, Technschen Universität – München, Universität Hohenheim-stuttgart, Europäische Akademie für Umwelt und Wirtschaft e.V: Universität-Lüneburg and Universität Bielefeld), Ilmenau University, Hamm-Lippstadt University Germany, Switzerland (Université dé Genéve, Biozentrum-Basel, ETH-Zurich, Botanisches Universität-Basel, Universität – Bern), Austria (Innsbruck Medical University, Vienna University), Croatia ( National University), Bosnia ( National University) , Italy (Trieste, University of L’Aquila), France (University of Grasse), Canada (McMaster University) and USA ( Boston) over the theme proteomics (HSP70), Toxicology, Tissue Engineering, Cancer Biology cum Diagnostic tools, Biotechnology, siRNA mediated Gene Silencing , Stress Biology , Bioethics economy and law. Having 18 years of teaching, research and administrative experience (Loyola College, Madras University, M.S. University Tirunelveli, MCC Kanyakumari) he worked as resource person to chalk out policy for innovative research to promote education and training; research and development; science and technology par excellence with international standard. He has got MoUs with international Universities in Asia and Europe namely, DBS – National University of Singapore: Biozentrum Basel-Switzerland, TUM and Universität Bielefeld-Germany; BII Biopolis A*STAR- Singapore, Chinese Academy of Sciences-China, Academia Sinica -Taiwan, Tsukuba Science City-Japan. He fosters interdisciplinary research cum guidance keeping bioethics. He is also collaborator with many national and international scientific associations. He has also been the Principal Investigator of research projects supported by Government scientific agencies like CSIR, DST, DBT – India and IFS –Sweden and has completed four major projects. He has published 07 conference abstracts, 24 conference proceedings and more than 170 publications in various national and international Scopus indexed Journals with a total impact factor 34, h index 29, citation index 28724 and also published seven co-authored books with ISBN. He disseminated his knowledge economy and experience in the field of advanced science through his book “Scaffold for bone tissue engineering” and “BIOINFORMATICS an Elementary and Practical Approach” published in 2014 still considered as best references in Universities and Colleges. He has filed one international and two national patent for his innovative findings. He has deposited 03 gene sequence in the EMBL Gen Bank, served as Research Guide, Scientist. He has guided and completed 18 Ph.D., 27 M.Phil. scholars till date and at his credentials. He is guiding 3 Ph.D. research scholars at present. He also has got membership in many professional bodies such as MytoCom Tyrol, Innsbruck-Austria, Live DNA – Germany, Stem cell society of Singapore, Genetic society of India, DBT, CSIR and DST Expert committee. He has been the Principal of MCC for 5 years under M.S. University, Tirunelveli, board of research Member CUSAT, Board of studies member cum Chairman for Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Industrial biotechnology of MSU. He was the Director of International Centre for Bio-resource Management, Director of Interdisciplinary Research Centre, Department of Biotechnology under Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. He is a promising innovator with significant contribution.
