Professor Jose Daniel Melo
Jose Daniel Diniz Melo has been a professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte Brazil since 1996.
He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, USA, M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maine, USA, and bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. He performed postdoctoral work at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Stanford University, where he has been a visiting Professor / Scholar since 2008. He was Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Materials Engineering and Director of the Technology Center of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. He has six patent applications, has published three books and numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings in the area of composite materials for aeronautical and aerospace structures. Prof. Melo is also Associate Editor of the Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites and Contributing Editor of the Journal Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures. He has supervised more than 25 graduate students at master and doctoral levels.
He is currently Vice-Rector and Professor of the Materials Engineering Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.
