Dr Qun Shao

Dr. Qun Shao is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Bradford-Renduchintala Enterprise Ecosystem (BREE) at the University of Bradford. He is actively involved in managing entrepreneurship programmes for students, graduate entrepreneurs, and aspiring entrepreneurs in our local community. He is also co-founder of both the Bradford UK-China Healthtech Open Innovation programme and the RCUK (Research Council UK) China Science Bridges programme. Qun has many years of knowledge transfer experience in both academic and industrial organisations across China and UK. During his role as China Programme Manager the University of Bradford was awarded a UK first-ranked RCUK Science Bridges programme (£1.3m). Qun has built strong networks with Chinese academia, industry and government and has led programmes and co-facilitated workshops that have created over 40 funded collaborations and joint venture companies between UK SMEs and academics, and counterparts in China.

Qun is also a co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of Crystec Ltd, a spin-out of the University of Bradford, focused on pharmaceutical particle design and crystal engineering. He has overall responsibility for coordinating international research, supply chain and manufacturing operations.

Qun holds a PhD in the field of knowledge engineering and artificial intelligence applied to pharmaceutical manufacturing, and has a multi-disciplinary educational background covering science, engineering and information technology. His research expertise relates to application of knowledge engineering and artificial intelligence to pharmaceutical formulations and Traditional Chinese Medicine modernisation. He has published over 30 scientific articles in major international journals and has received a number of research grants/awards. Prior to moving to the UK, Qun worked in a national chemical research institute in China. Qun is fluent in English, with Mandarin as his native language.

Professor Abhishek Bhati

Professor Abhishek Singh Bhati is the Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO at the Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education. Previously, Abhishek held Associate Dean, Interim Deputy Vice Chancellor and Campus Dean roles at Universities in Australia and Singapore. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Tourism Management (PhD) from James Cook University and Master of Business Administration in Marketing Management (MBA) from Maastricht School of Management. In addition, he obtained post-graduate learning and teaching qualifications, Graduate Certificate in Education Tertiary Teaching (GCETT) and Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE). Abhishek is the Regional Vice-President (SE Asia) of International Tourism Studies Association and makes regular contributions to print media and appearances on TV and radio on tourism-related matters. He serves as a volunteer with Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and mentors Universities in Malaysia and Thailand. He actively participates as a National Environment Agency (NEA) community engagement volunteer and in Purple Parade activities. He is recognised as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). He contributes to corporate governance through his Board Directorship of Singapore based enterprises. He serves as a member of the WIL SIG under Australian Collaborative Education Network (ACEN) and is a member of the Academy of Management, USA. Abhishek is an active researcher, and his research has been published in a wide variety of reputable publications in the field of tourism and scholarship of learning and teaching. In particular, he is interested in technology and the role it has as a catalyst for tourism industry changes, Low-carbon tourism for future sustainable development, and the need for tourism to deliver United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). His current research interest is tourist behaviour management, resilience planning and scholarship in Teaching and Learning.

Mr Surain Thapanangkun

Mr. Surain Thapanangkun is director of Royal Project Foundation and King’s Recommended Project Supporting Center, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Thailand.

Surain is an economist interested in development and addressing inequality issues. Currently, he oversees KMUTT’s overall work in community and social engagement, a field in which the university has been involved for over four decades. KMUTT has used its academic excellence in science and engineering to develop relevant and meaningful research questions that address community problems. He now oversees the university’s work areas covering local villages and remote regions across Thailand. Most of these areas are rural societies and ethnic groups facing inequality issues and ecosystems threatened by monoculture farming.

Surain and his research team emphasize participatory work with communities and local stakeholders, analyzing the real needs of communities. By doing so, they create a learning platform called a “social lab” to foster joint problem-solving. Areas of work cover various aspects, such as ensuring food security, developing education for children and community learning, promoting alternative occupations for villagers to replace monoculture farming, promoting community health and well-being, and restoring ecosystems.

In addition to promoting the application of knowledge for community development, Surain and his colleagues also emphasize using the social lab as a learning platform for KMUTT students and staff. This is to encourage them to understand Thai social structures and real problems. It also aims to develop awareness of being global citizens responsible for society and sustainable development.

Atty Basari Mapupuno

Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role as the 8th President of the Mindanao State University System. Installed in June 2022, he has a distinguished career marked by public service, legal expertise, and educational leadership.

President Mapupuno’s prior roles include Provincial Prosecutor of Lanao del Sur and the longest-serving dean of the MSU College of Law (1998-2008). He actively led the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Marawi City and Lanao del Sur Chapter, holding positions of Vice President and President.

President Mapupuno’s 10-point agenda focuses on propelling MSU to new heights. Key areas include academic excellence, research, fostering a culture of peace, international collaboration, and cultural heritage preservation.

A respected member of a noble Lanao family, President Mapupuno was enthroned as Sultan of Malaig in 2003. This deepens his understanding of the region’s rich heritage and diverse communities.

Dr N Manoharan Narayanasamy

Dr. N. Manoharan, presently serving as Director – Projects and International Affairs of Hindustan Group of Institutions has served as Vice Chancellor of Sathyabama University, Chennai and Pro Vice Chancellor of AMET University, Chennai. He is Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering with over 39
years of Teaching, Research and Administrative experience in Engineering College / University level. He has specialized in the area of Internal Combustion Engines, Thermography, Radiography, Materials, Micro Electronics and Nano Technology.

He has filed and published Twenty-Nine Patents with Two Patents granted in different areas of Engineering and Technology. He has published Three Hundred and Ninety-Four Technical papers in different National / International Journals / Conferences of various areas of research. He has
organized several Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Symposia, Short-term and Long-term courses. He is a life Member / member of TWENTY-ONE Professional Societies.

He has served in various higher positions in different Organizations including Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, Director, Dean, Principal and Professor. He has been nominated by the various GOVERNMENT OF INDIA Apex bodies to serve in the following on various capacity.

  • MEMBER OF DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (DST) – NRDMS COMMITTEE to formulate guidelines for the conduct of Remote Sensing & GIS courses in Indian Institutes.

He has served as Executive Council Member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) for four years and Chairman of Tamil Nadu & Pondy section of ISTE for two years. He has worked around 50 sponsored projects and organized to receive 59 sponsored projects from various Government of
India funding agencies. He has guided more than 200 Under Graduate Projects, 100 Post Graduate Projects and produced 12 Ph.D scholars in different areas of research.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasemsan Manomaiphiboon

Kasemsan Manomaiphiiboon holds a PhD degree in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (US) with his thesis on air quality modeling and related mathematical analysis. He has taught at the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand) since 2006 and supervised many graduate students and post-graduate researchers from various countries. His research involves air quality, climate, weather, and ambient energy using data analytics and numerical modeling as the main driving tools. He has published research findings in various journals, and co-written a book chapter, a book on local administration (environment section), and a mini-book on climate change & air quality. He has regularly engaged in professional services (as expert and reviewer) and occasionally shared opinions to the public through newspaper articles and media channels.

Mr. Camar Ameril

Camar P. Ameril is a graduate with a B.Sc. Biology (2007) degree at Mindanao State University-Marawi City under the College Bound Program Grant and later Academic Scholarship. He joined the Biology Department as an instructor in June 2007. He completed an M.Sc. in Environmental Sanitation (2015) at Ghent University, Belgium, under a Flemish Government Scholarship (VLIR-UOS) and an M.Sc. in Biology (2018) at MSU-Marawi City. He is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiology (minor in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, Laguna. For his doctoral dissertation, he is working on the “Chemotherapeutic Potentials of Prebiotic Compound 1,4-Dihydroxy-2-naphthoic Acid (DHNA) Against Prostate Cancer and Bacterial Pathogens,” which aims to combine 2D and 3D culture techniques in drug testing platforms. This involves 3D bioprinting and the use of appropriate hydrogels that serve as bio-inks. His research interests include One Health, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental microbiology. Outside of the academe, he is involved in various volunteering activities and community outreach programs organized by civic organizations and societies.

Dr. Husna Dimapalao

Dr. Husna Dimapalao is an Assistant Professor at Mindanao State University Marawi City. She handles biology courses both for undergraduate and graduate students. She got her PhD in the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Her dissertation utilized bioinformatic tools that could determine effects of diet particularly indigenous berries of the Philippines to health. She is passionate about doing research for the betterment of the people in Lanao. She wishes to collaborate with researchers outside MSU or even from outside Philippines to do research that could uplift poverty, food insecurity and overall problem of humanity.

Dr. Melba Angni

Melba Angni is the Director for International Affairs and Linkages of Mindanao State University, Philippines. She is The Jena Declaration’s Ambassador for Southeast Asia and the Philippines of UNESCO Chair on Global Understanding and Sustainability. She is also a member of the Operational Board of the World Technology Universities Network (WTUN) and an active collaborator of the EU-ASEAN GreenTrans-EDU project.

Melba leads the university’s global engagement, forging strategic partnerships, advancing academic collaborations, and positioning MSU as a dynamic player in internationalization, sustainability, and innovation. She is instrumental in aligning the university’s international affairs with global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals, The Jena Declaration, and the Green Transition agenda.

Her professional expertise lies in educational leadership, institutional diplomacy, inclusive development, science education and culture studies. With decades of experience in academia and leadership, Melba has been key in expanding MSU’s global networks, mobilizing faculty and student exchanges, and securing international programs that elevate institutional visibility and impact.

Melba is passionate about inclusive global learning, cultural sustainability, and transforming education to meet the challenges of the future. She is deeply committed to creating opportunities for academic communities to thrive through cross-border cooperation and knowledge sharing. As an advocate of internationalization for transformation, she champions partnerships that empower institutions and individuals to co-create solutions for a sustainable and inclusive world.

Professor Bruno Motta de Carvalho

Professor Bruno M. Carvalho is the Deputy International Relations Officer of the UFRN. Bruno has obtained his BSc., MSc. and PhD degrees in Computer Science, in the areas of Image Processing and Computer Vision. He has been working on applications that employ methods from Image Processing, Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence on several fields, but mainly on biomedical and geophysics problems. Bruno is currently working towards providing UFRN’s undergraduate and graduate students with a wide array of opportunities for international collaboration.
