Contribute to our WTUC2025 Programme
This year’s Congress theme, chosen by hosts, Thaksin University, is ‘The Glocalization’ – Functional Role of Higher Education from Local to Global.
Members and attendees are invited to reflect, share, and challenge on a range of issues related to this theme.
Together, the sessions correspond to the Congress sub-themes of:
- Social Innovation for Area-based Development
- Technology and Digital Transformation in Glocalized Education
- University-Industry Partnerships for Sustainability
- AI Technology and Higher Education
Thank you to all members who have submitted abstracts in response to the Call for Speakers. Once again, there has been a fantastic response from across our membership with eight member universities submitting at least one expression of interest.
The initial deadline of Thursday 3 July has now passed and responses to the sub-themes above has been well-balanced.
As with all WTUC programmes, we seek to reflect the widest representation of WTUN membership as possible as this enriches the programme and underlines the value of diverse, global perspectives on common issues.
With this in mind and in case of any late submissions, we are still accepting submissions to speak in any of the above sessions, with particular focus on:
Plenary: Social Innovation for Area-based Development
Plenary: AI Technology and Higher Education
Submissions should be emailed to the WTUN at wtun@bradford.ac.uk by Friday 18 July.
Register for the 2025 Congress:
Registration for WTUC closes on Thursday 07 August 2025.
The annual Congress is a testament to the impact and values of WTUN in promoting collaboration between technological universities worldwide, addressing significant world challenges, and educating the next generation of world leaders.
We invite and encourage your institutions to contribute to the Congress theme ‘The Glocalization’: Functional Role of Higher Education from Local to Global.
Higher education institutions play a dual role in both local and global contexts. This year’s theme will focus on the integration of global perspectives with local needs, ensuring that universities contribute to regional development while also engaging with international academic and research networks. Delegates are invited to reflect, share and challenge on a range of issues related to this year’s theme.
For more information and to register please go to https://www.wtu-n.net/2025-congress/
Announcing the winners of the Student Competition:
For 2025, undergraduate and postgraduate students from WTUN member institutions were invited to form a multidisciplinary team and address the 2025 theme “Sustainable Innovation for Planetary Health – Local Solutions for Global Problems”.
The assessment panel was thoroughly impressed by the team’s submissions and the final results were very close.

University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria
Take a look at the latest research news shared by colleagues as FHOÖ:
Materials engineering in soft tissue regeneration: Opening of another Josef Ressel Center at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria
An “Alliance” of high-tech and medicine at New Josef Ressel Center: Regenerating muscle defects directly in the body with the help of 3D printing
Tissue engineering plays a central role in regenerative medicine. This targeted, artificial production of biological tissue makes it possible to replace damaged or diseased tissue in patients. This significantly increases the scope for organ failure, tissue damage and degenerative diseases, as well as the prospects for personalized therapies. However, there is currently a lack of test and development systems in this area to enable complex in-vitro models to be transferred to living organisms. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism is therefore funding the new five-year Josef Ressel Center (JRZ) for “Materials Technology in Soft Tissue Regeneration”. This researches three-dimensional, light-modulated tissue pressure for use in the regeneration of muscle tissue at the Department of Medical Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria in Linz.

Top researchers from Linz and Zurich focus on lipid transport with FWF support: better understanding of Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular diseases
By answering fundamental questions about lipid transport, this research bridges the gap between molecular biophysics and structural biology and opens up new avenues to better understand diseases such as Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease. The results could have far-reaching implications for drug development and therapeutic strategies, offering hope for improved treatments and health outcomes. This innovative project not only sheds light on key cellular processes, but also lays the foundation for future discoveries in the field of lipid metabolism and beyond.
